Why Catholics Cannot Vote for Rudy Guiliani

I believe that Rudy Giuiliani possesses many characteristics of a great leader; however, with his strong support of abortion, gay marriages, and embryonic stem cell research, there is no way that we as Catholics can, in good conscience, vote for him. He is very much on a par with Hillary and Obama as far as these issues are concerned. Giuiliani embraces the culture of death, which serves as his ball and chain in the upcoming presidential election.

Let us pray that he will reject those obstacles that keep him from being an authentic Catholic and that are cutting off a life of grace between him and God. Let us pray for his conversion and the salvation of his soul.

  1. Giuliani is a RINO, Republican in name only.

  2. Dear Mrs. Heimann,

As an orthodox Catholic, 100% pro-life, etc., I share your concern completely. However, there is a degree of incompleteness in what you have stated.

You said that "Catholics Cannot Vote for Rudy Guiliani" and that "there is no way that we as Catholics can, in good conscience, vote for him."

It is necessary to make clear that the above statements refer to the PRIMARY elections, wherein Mr. Giuliani will be facing some completely or partially pro-life opponents. In those Primaries, we Catholics are forbidden to vote for RG.

However, in the unlikely event that RG becomes the Republican nominee for the GENERAL election in 2008, it is quite possible that his Demo(n)crat opponent will be even "more pro-death" than RG is. If such a thing comes to pass, then Catholics COULD (and, I would say, should) vote for RG.

Another possibility is that RG could become the nominee and would face a Demo(n)crat who is EQUALLY pro-death as (but not worse than) RG. In that case, a Catholic voter must turn to other issues to make the decision -- e.g., (as you mentioned) attempted marriages by same-sex couples -- and may even decide to vote for a third candidate as a form of protest.

    God be with you.
    John

  3. I agree with you, Jean. And the reason I cannot agree with John is that Rudy is no different than Hillary! or Obama on most of the important issues.

So, if you're going to have a culture of death President, it's much better to have one that the Republican Party can oppose.

  4. John,

You are correct in what you say, and I hope that it doesn't come to that.
I am hoping and praying that a pro-life candidate will be nominated in the primary and also elected in the general elections.

I am concerned that if people think that it is ok to vote for Giuliani in the primaries and there is no pro-life candidate in the general elections, they will choose not to vote at all and then we will have a pro-death demo(n)crat in office like Hillary or Obama. There is a possibility that this could happen because some pro-lifers will not vote at all when they have to choose between two pro-death candidates.

I have mentioned the alternatives in this situation on my site and have referred people to and handed out free guidelines to others many times, yet they continue to be resistant to voting for anyone who is pro-death and waste their vote on a third or write-in candidate.

    Thanks for your comments.
    God bless you,
    Jean

  5. John,

I forgot to mention that I still know some Catholics who think it is ok to vote for anyone they please - regardless of their beliefs on abortion. It is important to reiterate this to people over and over again until it sinks into their brain and also our Catholic leaders need to strongly state that it is a mortal sin to vote for death candidates, unless the above-situations, as you described occur.

It's sad, but some people still don't know this.

    God bless,
    Jean

  6. I passed out Catholic voting guides in my parish after Mass and about half the parishioners refused them.

  7. Jay,

I agree with you that there is little difference on the issues as expressed by Obama, Hillary, and Giuliani - they are like three peas in a pod.

    Thanks for your comment.

    God bless you,
    Jean
