Sunday Afternoon Respite

We took a little drive out to Eldorado Lake today to see what it was like. This was the first time we had been there since we moved to Kansas from IL - almost two years ago. It was very peaceful and relaxing there. Both Bill and I love nature and the outdoors. When he was taking aptitude tests in junior college and was trying to discern his future plans, one of his highest results was to be a forest ranger, which I could tell without even testing him from our first date. After eating out at a nice restaurant, we had to go to a nearby park to walk and talk and enjoy the warm summer weather. Each time thereafter, we seemed to end up walking in a park or hiking on a forest trail and he had many interesting tales to tell about the trees, the plants, the insects, the squirrels, the wolves, the deer, the coyotes, the birds, the fish, and the weather.

I am a nature lover and especially enjoyed fishing, hiking, climbing trees, and exploring the old Indian caves and the stream that were located in a grassy knoll just beyond our back yard when I was growing up. However, whenever Bill and I got together it felt like I was on a specially guided nature tour. What a wonderful companion God has given me for this journey called life: a hard - working boy who grew up on a farm, who could chop his own wood, build his own fires, hunt his own food, fend for himself against the elements, and share his knowledge and appreciation of God's gifts with me.

Thanks be to God for the beautiful world which He created for us to enjoy and for all the blessings he bestows on us!

I forgot to take the camera along with us, so I will share this sunrise image from just- jen's photostream. We didn't see the sunrise, but did see the sunset, which shimmered brightly over the lake.
