The Greatest Miracle: Movie Review

This will be a quick movie review, as I pull an overnight study session and get ready to finish  another semester of graduate school. This film opens Friday.


I had the wonderful opportunity of previewing a unique, uplifting, and inspiring film of hope and faith, which I thoroughly enjoyed -- The Greatest Miracle. It is an animated film, focusing in on the graces of the Holy Mass. The Greatest Miracle revolves around the lives of three people who find themselves at the same Catholic Mass because of crises they are struggling to endure. Going to Mass is not new to any of them – but they need assistance to embrace its true meaning. Their guardian angels help them to find this meaning in the Mass. What they experience in that particular Mass changes their lives forever.

The animations are beautiful and the characters in the film are contemporary, true to life, with problems that we can all relate to. The story line will hold your interest and attention. There is also a part of the story that deals with the Sacrament of Reconciliation, which is presented in a very interesting and original way. The film is well worth seeing and will spur on a renewed interest and appreciation of the Holy Mass.

In his recent letter of endorsement, the Most Reverend David L. Ricken, Bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay, said of this film: “The Greatest Miracle draws the viewer into the Mass by artistically portraying what we as Catholics believe to be taking place, but what we as human beings are incapable of perceiving with our earthy senses. It beautifully depicts the moment of the Consecration as a continuation of Christ’s sacrifice on Calvary, and it celebrates the way in which we “…unite ourselves with the heavenly liturgy and anticipate eternal life, when God will be all in all.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1326)

The Greatest Miracle opens Friday in 3D around the country. This PG-rated, animated film take viewers on a wonderful journey to learn about the miracle that is the Catholic Mass.

Saint Michael de Sanctis: Patron of Cancer Patients

Today is the feast of Saint Michael de Sanctis, also known as St. Michael of the Saints, a Spanish Discalced Trinitarian priest, the patron of cancer patients. Michael Argemir was born on September 29, 1591 at Vic, Catalonia, Spain. At age 6, he told his parents that he planned to become a monk and began modeling his life after Saint Francis of Assisi. Michael’s parents died when he was about ten years old. He then served as an apprentice with a local merchant. During this apprenticeship, he continued his fervent devotion to the Lord, especially to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Saint Gerard of Brogne: Patron of Abbots

St. Gerard was born to a noble family in Staves, Belgium, in 895. He descended from a royal line of military men and at first felt a share in this call to arms. He trained for the army and, as a page of the count of Namur, he was sent on a special mission to the French court. There, Gerard realized that he was being called to the monastic life. He stayed in France and joined the Benedictines of St. Denis, abandoning his noble birthright and all his worldly possessions. He spent eleven years in France as a monk before becoming a priest. Following his ordination, he left for Belgium in order to found a new abbey on his own estate of Brogne. He was its abbot for twenty-two years and during that period was instrumental in introducing St. Benedict's Rule into numerous houses in Flanders, Lorraine and Champagne.He became known for his engaging sweetness of temper, his strict observance of the Rule of St. Benedict and for the replacement of lukewarm religious practice with true piety.
