ALL calls on Archbishop Wuerl to enforce Cannon 915 at Red Mass

American Life League Thursday called on Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl to enforce Canon 915 at the annual Red Mass at St. Matthew the Apostle Cathedral on Oct. 5.

The Catholic Code of Canon Law requires that all those who persist in "manifestly grave sin" are not to be permitted to receive the Holy Eucharist.

"We implore Archbishop Wuerl to exercise his duty to protect the Holy Eucharist from the sacrilege of pro-abortion politicians receiving the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ," said Judie Brown, president of American Life League.

The Red Mass has been notoriously attended by politicians who actively support abortion and contraception – a position that is unequivocally opposed by the Catholic Church.

"The Blessed Sacrament has been desecrated in years past at this Mass by politicians with blood on their hands," Brown said. "We hope and pray that this year, Archbishop Wuerl has the courage to be a real shepherd and leader of his flock by protecting our most sacred Sacrament."

The Red Mass is a special Mass celebrated for those involved in the government and legal system. Catholics believe these officials' power comes from God – therefore they have a sacred duty to govern with justice and protect the most innocent and defenseless among us – the preborn."The Red Mass should be the perfect opportunity for Archbishop Wuerl to send a message to pro-abortion politicians everywhere – it is not possible to be Catholic and support abortion."

    Then I guess Kmiec, Kennedy, Kerry, Pelosi, Sebelius, Kaine, Biden (who attends 4 different Masses on Sundays to be seen) should not bother to show up!!!

    Heck, whenever I haven't even confessed my garden variety sins, I recuse myself from communion, but these people who promote a culture of death & secularism have no shame...

    Even more important than denying Communion is for the Catholic Church (and all other pro-life Christian and Jewish denominations) to stand up to the IRS and take a strong moral stand by publicly condemning the Democratic Party for its support for the killing of unborn children and by urging all Christian voters (and all other voters as well) to vote only for John McCain for President and only for Republican candidates for the House and Senate and all state and local offices. If we can elect John McCain and a pro-life Republican Congress, we stand a chance of being able to do something to stop or reduce the killing of unborn children. I do not see any other way of doing this.

    We can go on forever condemning the evil of abortion violence and denying communion and upholding pro-life positions, but I do not think we will actually stop the killing of unborn children until all the churches in America stand together as one and call for all voters to vote only for pro-life Republicans and against anti-life Democrats.

Today is the feast of Saint Michael de Sanctis, also known as St. Michael of the Saints, a Spanish Discalced Trinitarian priest, the patron of cancer patients. Michael Argemir was born on September 29, 1591 at Vic, Catalonia, Spain. At age 6, he told his parents that he planned to become a monk and began modeling his life after Saint Francis of Assisi. Michael’s parents died when he was about ten years old. He then served as an apprentice with a local merchant. During this apprenticeship, he continued his fervent devotion to the Lord, especially to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The saint of the day for August 31 is St. Raymond Nonnatus. He is the patron of expectant mothers, midwives, obstetricians, infertile couples, and newborn babies. Raymond was born at Portella, Catalonia, Spain in 1204, the son of wealthy parents. He was delivered by cesarean section when his mother died in childbirth. Hence his name non natus (not born). In his childhood, he seemed to find pleasure only in his devotions and serious duties. His father, sensing that Raymond was drawn to religious life, ordered him to manage one of the family farms. Raymond readily obeyed but spent his time with the shepherds and workers, studying and praying until his father abandoned the idea of making his son a worldly success.
