More Photos From the Midwest Catholic Family Conference

We come here to adore and sing the praises of the Lord. There were about 2500 people at the conference and most of them were in this procession. The Knights of Columbus are in the background, wearing their black tuxedos. It was too warm to wear their full regalia in the 100 degree weather.
Sandy Rongish, me, and Brother Benjamin pose for a photo at the Brothers of St. John "Children of Hope" booth. The Brothers are here to teach children of all ages to adore. They are wonder-workers for the Lord!
Brother Isaiah and Brother Benjamin both from the Monastery in Monterrey, Mexico at the end of the conference, packing up. Thank you, Brothers, for loving and serving the Lord with your whole heart, mind, and soul, for loving us, and for bringing the culture of life to our families. We are so grateful to God for all that you do. It was in the 100's here during the conference and both Brothers commented on how "pleasant" the weather was here (especially compared to southern Mexico this time of year.)

    Jean, I am so glad you are sharing the conference experience with us. I'm sorry to see Fr. Groeschel looking so frail in one picture though. I guess he is still recovering from that serious accident.

    Esther, you're right about Fr. Groeschel. He has difficulty standing in one spot for long, but he seems to do better with walking. I can relate to that. He is still VERY sharp mentally and hasn't lost his sense of humor. However, once someone has had that kind of an accident and trauma to their body, their body is never quite the same again. Often, the person suffers from chronic pain.

Saint Michael de Sanctis: Patron of Cancer Patients

Today is the feast of Saint Michael de Sanctis, also known as St. Michael of the Saints, a Spanish Discalced Trinitarian priest, the patron of cancer patients. Michael Argemir was born on September 29, 1591 at Vic, Catalonia, Spain. At age 6, he told his parents that he planned to become a monk and began modeling his life after Saint Francis of Assisi. Michael’s parents died when he was about ten years old. He then served as an apprentice with a local merchant. During this apprenticeship, he continued his fervent devotion to the Lord, especially to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. At the age of 12, he joined the Trinitarian Friars at Barcelona, taking his vows at St. Lambert’s monastery in Saragosa four years later.  Shortly afterwards, Michael expressed a desire to join the reformed group of Trinitarians and was given permission to do so. Saint Lydia Purpuraria

Today's saint, St. Lydia Purpuraria, was the first Christian convert in Europe, a businesswoman who dealt in luxury goods. She is the patron saint of cloth dyers. Saint Lydia was born during the first century in Thyatira, a town famous for its dye works in Asia Minor, famous for its dye works, (hence, her name which means purple seller). She was a seller of purple dye and was St. Paul's first convert at Philippi. The following is from the Acts of the Apostles: And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, one that worshipped God, did hear: whose heart the Lord opened to attend to those things which were said by Paul. And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying: If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there.
